Levant: Street Food of Middle East

Just a brief hello, to let all of you know that there is a new cookbook in the market!

This book is rather special, as it amalgamates the concept of street food and regional cuisine in the form of memoir from none other than Mdm Anissa, a prolific food writer based in London. Below is the excerpt from publisher, Harper Collins:

Recipes and memories
from the Middle East
Published on 20 June 2013 in hardback at £20
‘This treasure trove of a book is all you need to cook the food of the Levant.
It is as comprehensive and conclusive as it gets, but it also tells charming personal stories and masterfully takes you on a journey to all those enchanted lands.
Yotam Ottolenghi
Anissa Helou’s Levant is a collection of mouth-watering recipes inspired by her family and childhood in Beirut and Syria, and her travels around the exciting regions of the eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East.
Levant, or rising of the sun, is the crossroads where western Asia, eastern Mediterranean and northwest Africa meet. A land that is culturally diverse, but united by common culinary threads. In this personal tour, Anissa Helou introduces the beautiful food of Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, Iran, Palestine and Jordan. She draws them together through the themes of family, farm, souks(markets), restaurants, bakeries and sweetmakers, and attempts to record the food traditions of countries that are changing beyond recognition and are at risk of disappearing.
Levantincludes 150 inspired recipes for soups and sides, salads and mezze, meats, fish and vegetarian, sweets, preserves and breads. Dishes include Lemony Swiss Chard and Lentil Soup, Fried Eggs with Sumac, Kibbe Balls in Yoghurt Sauce, Cabbage and Tomato Salad, Sweet Pistachio Pie, Wild Chicory in Olive Oil with Caramelized Onion, Grilled Aubergines with Tahini Sauce, Turkish Cheese Pie, Lebanese Morning Bread, Halva, and Milk Pudding.
Anissa Helou (anissas.com) is a food writer, journalist, broadcaster and blogger. Born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon and Syria, she knows the Mediterranean as only a well-travelled native can. She is the author of numerous award-winning cookbooks including Offal:The Fifth Quarter; Modern Mezze; Savory Baking from the Mediterranean; Mediterranean Street Food; Street Café Morocco and Lebanese Cuisine, which was a finalist for the prestigious Andre Simon awards and chosen as one of the Los Angeles Times’ favourite books. Anissa has just launched Koshari Street (kosharistreet.com), an Egyptian inspired street food experience, in London and plans to launch others very soon.
